NLP also offers an after-school program that can be completed in eight to 10 weeks. It begins with NLP's core news literacy unit taught by a combination of teachers, NLP staffers and journalists to build a strong foundation. The unit then focuses on a collaborative student media project on a topic chosen by the students. Journalist fellows teach students digital media-making skills which the students then use to present their work through print, audio or video reports or multimedia websites. The students typically present their projects in a public forum with parents, journalists or both.
