Paul has been a database editor at USA Today since 1993. He is one of the foremost experts among journalists in analyzing demographic data, especially the U.S. Census. He has trained journalists through the Reynolds Center, Investigative Reporters and Editors and the Society of Professional Journalists. Before working at USA Today, he was a science and environmental reporter and editor at Gannett News Service in Washington, D.C. and held a variety of reporting and editing roles at The Courier-News in Bridgewater, N.J.
