Eric Schmitt

The New York Times

Eric is a senior writer for The New York Times in Washington, covering domestic and international terrorism issues. He has reported on military and national security affairs for almost 25 years He has made nine trips to Iraq and four to Afghanistan since the Sept. 11 attacks, and several trips to Pakistan and West Africa. He has also covered immigration, business, Congress and the Pentagon. Eric has shared two Pulitzer Prizes. In 1999, he was part of a team of New York Times reporters awarded the Pulitzer for the coverage of the transfer of sensitive military technology to China. In 2009, he was part of a team of New York Times reporters awarded the Pulitzer for coverage of Afghanistan and Pakistan. He is co-author of the 2011 book “Counterstrike: the Untold Story of America's Secret Campaign Against Al Qaeda.”
