Lam led a team of multiplatform journalists at Al Jazeera America, which she joined in June 2013. She came to Al Jazeera America from NPR’s Planet Money, where she created interactives, data visualizations, videos and photographs to explain economic issues in visual ways. She managed and produced one of the show's most viewed online projects, “Unfit for Work: The startling rise of disability in America.” Lam earlier spent five years at The Wall Street Journal, both in New York and in Hong Kong. As the editorial lead for video content in the Journal’s Asia edition, she worked with more than a dozen bureaus to create breaking news stories, regular series and enterprising multimedia projects. In addition, she supported the Journal’s expansion in the region by creating content for local audiences in Japan, South Korea, China and India in multiple languages and for multiple online environments. At The Wall Street Journal she started training print reporters in video production and has been teaching online journalism skills at conferences around the world ever since. Most recently, she developed a basic data journalism course that she teaches online at University of Massachusetts Amherst's journalism school.
