As a reporter for New York public radio station WNYC, Stephen has chronicled the transformation of the World Trade Center through photos and radio stories and profiled the city’s unique characters, including a tabloid crime photographer, Mohawk ironworkers and black surfers in the Rockaways. He spent a year reporting on the oldest family in one of the city’s oldest public housing projects for a four-part series. During Hurricane Sandy, he reported extensively in Brooklyn and Queens and continues to examine the recovery in the Rockaways. His stories are often featured on NPR’s “Morning Edition” and other public radio programs. He joined the station in 2009 after working as an English teacher in Harbin and Xiamen, China.
