Rhonda Gillespie

Rhonda is a Chicago freelancer and a former managing editor of the Chicago Defender newspaper and also works with ColumbiaLinks, a student journalism program for the Chicago Public Schools based at Columbia College Chicago. She joined the Defender staff in 2006 as a copy editor; in 2008 she was named the Defender’s news editor, the #2 position in the newsroom. She also worked as a reporter and editor for the Chicago Citizen. Rhonda began her career as a general assignment, education and local government reporter for several Chicago news organizations. She is a former contributing reporter to Black America Web and has served as a media liaison for mainstream news organizations looking to connect with the African-American community.
