Fernando is managing editor of Hoy Chicago, where he has directed print and online content strategy since 2010. Fernando came to the Chicago Tribune Media Group in 2009 as Community Manager for News & Opinion for ChicagoNow, an online community of Chicago bloggers. In 2007, Fernando started at the Chicago Reporter, where he worked as a bilingual investigative reporter. He’s also worked at the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y., and the Daily Herald in suburban Chicago. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Fernando has covered of labor, immigration, criminal justice, government and politics. Fernando was the recipient of the 2013 Studs Terkel Community Media Award, awarded to journalists for outstanding coverage of Chicago’s diverse communities. Fernando is president of the Chicago Headline Club, a lifetime member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and a member of IRE.
